ISWAP: Terrorists set to elect new commander as troops kill Shuwaram
The Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) is set to name Bako Gorgore as its commander.
This follows the death of Wali (Head) Sani Shuwaram.
Shuwaram was killed by Nigerian troops at a hideout around Kirta Wulgo near Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
Shuwaram died months after installation in Kurnawa, Lake Chad. In attendance were emissaries from ISIS.
The 45-year-old had succeeded Malam Bako, who led in an acting capacity until his death, Daily Post reports.
Bako took over from Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, the late leader and son of Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf.
Shuwaram was the fifth officially recognised head of ISWAP. Other predecessors were Mamman Nur, Abba-Gana and Abu-Dawud, all deceased.
