‘I’ve never performed without alcohol’ — Victony opens up
Afrobeats star Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has revealed that he is taking on a personal challenge during his ongoing Stubborn tour, performing without consuming alcohol for the first time in his career.
Speaking in a candid interview with Behind The Prestige, the 24-year-old singer admitted, “I’ve never been on stage without taking alcohol,” but said he’s determined to change that habit to create a more genuine connection with his fans.
Describing the decision as a “big challenge,” Victony explained that performing sober will allow him to “see my fans clearly and truly connect with them” as he takes the tour across major cities like New York, Toronto, and London.
The Stubborn tour, launched in support of his sophomore album released in June 2024, has been praised for its energy and authenticity. Now, Victony says embracing sobriety is part of a larger effort to elevate his stagecraft and engage audiences in a more meaningful way.
“I just want to try,” he said. “I want to connect without the fog.”
The singer has previously opened up about his struggles and resilience, especially following a life-altering accident and multiple surgeries. He credits those experiences, along with the success of hit tracks like Soweto, for shaping his evolving perspective on life and music.
