Jailbreak: 12 inmates escape from Kogi Correctional Centre

Twelve inmates escaped during an early morning jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, on Monday.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as “unfortunate” and assured residents that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is taking decisive steps to prevent future occurrences.
He confirmed that one of the escapees has already been re-arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the others.
“The claim that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns. This necessitates a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak, apprehend the fugitives, and identify any possible saboteurs,” Fanwo stated.
Governor Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to prevent further security breaches and ensure that all escaped inmates are recaptured.
“We urge the public to report any suspicious individuals in their communities. Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will face legal consequences,” Fanwo warned.
He reassured residents that there is no cause for panic, emphasizing that the security of lives and property remains the government’s top priority.
