JAMB delists 23 CBT centres in 11 states, FCT over 2026 mock UTME issues
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the delisting of 23 computer-based test (CBT) centres across 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory following disruptions recorded during the 2026 mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The decision comes after widespread technical failures on March 27 left many candidates unable to take the exam as scheduled. In several locations, candidates reportedly waited for hours without the test commencing, triggering frustration and strong reactions nationwide, especially on social media platforms.
JAMB had earlier released the mock UTME results on March 31, initially delisting 20 centres affected by the glitches.
However, in a fresh update issued on Friday, the board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed that the number of affected centres has risen to 23, citing technical inefficiencies as the reason for their removal.
Benjamin further revealed that 88 additional centres have been cautioned over minor issues, while one centre has been permanently barred from participating in any future JAMB examinations.
He explained that the mock UTME is designed not only to help candidates get accustomed to the CBT format but also to serve as an assessment tool for the board’s operational readiness.
“It provides an opportunity to identify centres that fall short of the required operational and technical standards,” he said.
According to him, JAMB’s internal review after the mock exercise identified several centres that failed to meet expected benchmarks.
“Consequently, the Board has taken decisive steps, in line with its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examination processes, to ensure that only centres that are fully prepared and compliant participate in the main UTME exercise,” he added.
