Jigawa task force shut down five filling stations over meter manipulation

The Jigawa State Task Force on Petroleum Products has taken decisive action by closing down five filling stations suspected of manipulating their fuel meters and participating in activities aimed at defrauding customers.

Colonel Muhammad Alhassan (Rtd), the Chairman of the Taskforce, made this announcement during a press briefing subsequent to his inspection of several filling stations located in the areas of Kiyawa, Gumel, and Jahun within the local government jurisdictions.

The purpose of these inspections is to ensure that the filling stations adhere to established regulations, thereby maintaining integrity in their operations.

Alhassan elaborated on the situation, revealing that the Taskforce had issued warnings to more than thirty filling stations, while five of them were ultimately shut down due to their involvement in unethical practices.

“Some of these stations were discovered to lack the Sarafin Gauge and standard measuring equipment, which are essential for accurately gauging their pumps’ functionality,” he noted.

He emphasized that the Taskforce’s work would continue, involving ongoing inspections of other filling stations to uncover any instances of meter tampering aimed at deceiving customers.

Alhassan underscored that there would be no exceptions made for any filling station found guilty of such activities, reiterating the Taskforce’s commitment to upholding fairness and transparency within the petroleum industry.
