Operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in tandem with the 176 Guards Battalion of the Nigeria Army, have apprehended no less than 42 suspected bandits. The arrest took place in the wooded area near Tsaumi Village, Niger State, following actionable intelligence, as reported by Olusola Odumosu, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commander of the NSCDC.

Addressing the press at the Corps’ headquarters in Abuja while showcasing the suspects, Odumosu commended the collaborative efforts of the Nigeria Army in purging criminal elements from the FCT Abuja and its vicinity.

He stated, “I am pleased to announce that the strategic directives issued to our personnel have yielded results. Acting upon credible intelligence and in partnership with the 176 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army, we have apprehended 42 suspected bandits and terrorists who purportedly posed as solid mineral miners.”

These individuals were intercepted in the forest area adjacent to Tsaumi Village, near Lambata in the Gurara local government area of Niger State. Initial investigations indicate that they may not be genuine miners but suspected bandits fleeing the military crackdown in Zamfara State, traversing through the forested region of Niger State toward the FCT via Gwagwalada Area Council, en route to Pai Village in Kwali Area Council.

“Upon interrogation, they failed to provide details of their alleged mining operations, including the site and company they claimed to represent,” Odumosu added. “Further inquiries revealed their involvement across Zamfara, Kogi, and Niger States. Their lack of evidence supporting their purported mining activities suggests ulterior motives.”

He also disclosed, “The suspects have admitted to having sponsors; however, investigations into this aspect are ongoing, and updates will be provided upon conclusion.”

Moreover, the FCT Commander highlighted the apprehension of four syndicates involved in the theft and vandalism of critical assets and infrastructure within the FCT. Collaborating with the Department of State Services (DSS), the suspects were arrested at various locations within Abuja and are currently aiding security operatives with insights into their operational tactics. The individuals apprehended were identified as Bartholomew Anthony, Hakilu Muhammed, Abdulrahaman Abbas, and Samila Promise.
