Kidnapped Benue varsity lecturer regains freedom
Dr. Godwin Kwanga, a lecturer in the Department of Geography at Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, who was abducted by unknown gunmen, has been rescued.
The university don was freed on Saturday during a coordinated operation by the Police Special Squad, Operation Zenda, in collaboration with the Joint Task Force (JTF) and other security agencies in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The successful rescue mission occurred at Tse-Anjov village, near Wafare Quarters, close to the burial site of victims of Fulani herdsmen attacks, along Mobile Barracks Ring Road in Makurdi.
According to sources, two of the abductors fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds, abandoning both their weapons and the victim.
IDOMA VOICE learned that Dr. Kwanga was reunited with his family around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday in Makurdi.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
