Lagos: Driver burnt to death in tragic Lekki-Epe expressway accident
Tragedy struck on Thursday when a driver was burned to death in a fatal accident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, after Okegun/Seaport, inward Epe, Lagos.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reported that the accident occurred midday and involved a Toyota Highlander Jeep (GGE 432 JC) and an empty Sino tipper truck.
The Toyota Highlander, traveling inward Ajah, reportedly lost control, veered across the expressway, and collided with the moving Sino tipper truck heading toward Epe. The impact caused the Highlander to catch fire, trapping the driver inside.
LASTMA officials, working with the Lagos State Fire Services (Epe Division), quickly extinguished the fire and recovered the remains of the driver. The deceased’s body was later handed over to family members who arrived from Epe.
Security personnel from the Epe Police Division were present to ensure safety and provide support during the rescue and recovery operations.
Bakare-Oki expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for them to find strength in this difficult time. He also emphasized LASTMA’s commitment to road safety and urged motorists to follow traffic rules and maintain their vehicles regularly to avoid such tragedies.
