Commencing from the year 2024, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled a significant modification for individuals undertaking the Direct Entry examination. Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar, officially conveyed this transformation during a virtual conference with Commissioners of Education representing the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
As delineated in a bulletin disseminated by the Board, Prof. Oloyede elucidated that JAMB will be instituting an Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates in 2024. This innovative assessment is crafted to evaluate candidates’ academic potential, career suitability, and cognitive capabilities, moving away from conventional subject-based evaluations to specifically appraise cognitive skills.
The Aptitude Test will encompass sections such as Verbal, Abstract, Mechanical and Numeric Reasoning, Data Checking, and Work Sampling. Noteworthy is the shift in Direct Entry registration, now exclusively conducted at JAMB Offices nationwide.
Throughout the registration process, candidates are mandated to furnish essential information, including the Registration/Matriculation Number from the previous school, qualification subjects, Awarding Institution, Institution attended, and the Year of graduation. Admission letters may be requisitioned where applicable.
Verbal and numeric reasoning tests form integral components of this aptitude test, offering insights into candidates’ cognitive prowess. Verbal reasoning gauges comprehension, analytical, and language skills, while numeric reasoning evaluates mathematical and analytical capabilities.
These novel assessments are devised to measure candidates’ academic potential beyond the confines of specific subjects. By evaluating general aptitude and problem-solving skills, the tests provide a comprehensive understanding of candidates’ intellectual capacities. This strategic approach assists educators in identifying students proficient in logical and analytical thinking, attributes beneficial across diverse academic disciplines and real-world scenarios.
