JAMB Introduces Aptitude Test for Direct Entry Candidates from 2024 Onward

Commencing from the year 2024, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has unveiled a significant modification for individuals undertaking the Direct Entry examination. Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar, officially conveyed this transformation during a virtual conference with Commissioners of Education representing the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

As delineated in a bulletin disseminated by the Board, Prof. Oloyede elucidated that JAMB will be instituting an Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates in 2024. This innovative assessment is crafted to evaluate candidates’ academic potential, career suitability, and cognitive capabilities, moving away from conventional subject-based evaluations to specifically appraise cognitive skills.

The Aptitude Test will encompass sections such as Verbal, Abstract, Mechanical and Numeric Reasoning, Data Checking, and Work Sampling. Noteworthy is the shift in Direct Entry registration, now exclusively conducted at JAMB Offices nationwide.

Throughout the registration process, candidates are mandated to furnish essential information, including the Registration/Matriculation Number from the previous school, qualification subjects, Awarding Institution, Institution attended, and the Year of graduation. Admission letters may be requisitioned where applicable.

Verbal and numeric reasoning tests form integral components of this aptitude test, offering insights into candidates’ cognitive prowess. Verbal reasoning gauges comprehension, analytical, and language skills, while numeric reasoning evaluates mathematical and analytical capabilities.

These novel assessments are devised to measure candidates’ academic potential beyond the confines of specific subjects. By evaluating general aptitude and problem-solving skills, the tests provide a comprehensive understanding of candidates’ intellectual capacities. This strategic approach assists educators in identifying students proficient in logical and analytical thinking, attributes beneficial across diverse academic disciplines and real-world scenarios.

JAMB Direct Entry Admission Guidelines for 2024/2025

This article provides an in-depth discussion on JAMB direct admission in Nigerian Universities. It aims to elucidate the requirements and admission guidelines, enabling applicants to secure their desired courses and institutions in Nigeria.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers for Direct Entry Applicants:

  1. What is direct entry admission?

    • Direct Entry admission is designed for individuals holding a diploma certificate who aspire to pursue a degree program in a university. Successful candidates typically begin from part 2 or 200 level in their chosen university.
  2. Does direct entry require JAMB?

    • Direct Entry applicants do not need to write JAMB UTME. Instead, they are required to possess OND, HND, Cambridge A level, or JUPEB results to qualify for admission. However, the purchase of the Direct Entry form from JAMB is necessary for the admission process.
  3. Can I write JAMB and still collect JAMB Direct Entry simultaneously?

    • Yes, it is permissible to write JAMB and also collect the Direct Entry form. DE candidates can “upgrade” their UTME forms to Direct Entry if they meet the qualifications for both.
  4. Can I use awaiting result for Direct Entry?

    • Acceptance of awaiting results depends on the chosen university and the admission window. While some universities accept awaiting results, others may not. It is advisable to check the specific requirements of the school before applying.
  5. Does Direct Entry involve writing post UTME?

    • The requirement for post UTME in Direct Entry varies by the university. Some universities, like UI and UNILAG, do not conduct post UTME for DE candidates, while others, such as FUTA, do. Prospective candidates should research the admission practices of their chosen university in previous years for clarity.
