Shua’ibu Nafiu, a 39-year-old resident of Dorayi Quarters in Kano, appeared in a Kano Sharia Court on Thursday facing charges of breach of trust, cheating, and mischief.

Nafiu is accused of a three-count charge including criminal breach of trust, cheating, and mischief.

The case was reported by Muhammed Bello from Dandishe Quarters, who lodged a complaint at Fagge Police Station on August 28.

According to the prosecutor, Abdullahi Wada, Bello entrusted Nafiu with 15 pieces of lace textile materials worth N900,000, with the expectation that Nafiu would sell them and transfer the proceeds to Bello’s account. However, Bello received only N400,000 of the total amount.

The prosecutor further told the court that when the complainant asked the defendant for the remaining money, the defendant refused to send the remaining money.

He said that the efforts to get the money from the defendant proved abortive.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 202 and 206 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Malam Umar Lawal-Abubakar, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one reliable surety, who must be a blood relation.

He adjourned the case until September 23 for summary trial.
