Man arraigned for allegedly assaulting policemen in Lagos

A 38-year-old man, Suleiman Olapade, was on Friday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting two police officers on duty.
Olapade is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Esther Adesulu, informed the court that the incident occurred on May 15 in the Abule Ado area of Ojo. She alleged that the defendant incited a group of hoodlums to attack two police officers, Abigail Igbodo and Emeka Nwanmeme who were performing their lawful duties.
Adesulu further told the court that Olapade forcefully took handcuffs from the officers and used them to inflict injuries on them. She added that he also tore Officer Nwanmeme’s uniform during the confrontation.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 168 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate Funke Ogun granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until June 2 for mention.
