Mbappe breaks Di Stéfano’s 71-year record in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Mallorca

Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe made history on Wednesday by breaking a long-standing club record previously held by Alfredo Di Stéfano.
The French forward set a new benchmark for the most LaLiga goals scored in a debut season for Los Blancos, netting his 28th league goal in a 2-1 victory over Mallorca. It was Mbappe’s 32nd appearance in the league this season.
Di Stéfano’s record of 27 goals, set during the 1953-54 campaign, had stood unchallenged for 71 years.
Despite Mbappe’s milestone, it was a tough outing for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who needed a dramatic injury-time winner to secure all three points and keep their fading title hopes alive—at least for another 24 hours. Jacobo Ramon scored the decisive goal in the 95th minute, after Mallorca had taken an early lead through Martin Valjent in the 11th minute. Mbappe equalized in the 68th minute to set the stage for the late heroics.
Real Madrid’s title bid had taken a serious hit following a defeat to Barcelona last weekend. They now trail the Catalan giants by four points. Barcelona could clinch the title on Thursday with a win in their derby against Espanyol. However, a draw or loss would extend the title race to the final two rounds of the season.
Alfredo Di Stéfano remains one of Real Madrid’s all-time greats, with 306 goals in 392 appearances. On
