Messi wins MLS MVP after leading Inter Miami to historic season
Lionel Messi was named Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player on Friday, following a record-breaking regular season with Inter Miami.
The Argentine legend received the prestigious award for his pivotal role in leading Miami to a historic points tally, securing the club’s first-ever Supporters Shield.
Despite battling injuries throughout the season and making only 19 appearances, the 37-year-old finished with an impressive 36 goal contributions, including 20 goals and 16 assists, topping the league in both categories.
Although Miami’s campaign ended with a surprise first-round exit in the MLS Cup playoffs, Messi’s individual success earned him the MVP honor. He becomes the 10th South American player to win the award and the fifth from Argentina, joining the ranks of Luciano Acosta, Diego Valeri, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Christian Gomez.
