Niger Delta group tells Buhari where next police IG should come from
The Niger Delta Congress has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against appointing a northerner as the next inspector-general of police’s appointment.
The group believed Moses Jitoboh should have been the next police chief after Mohammed Adamu’s tenure ended.
It claimed that Mr. Buhari extended Adamu’s tenure by three months to prevent Mr. Jitoboh from occupying the office.
The NDC acting spokesperson, Adokiye Oyagiri, in a statement on Monday said the reason given by the Police Affairs Minister, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, was tricky, considering that Mr. Adamu was due for retirement on February 1.
“It is also a publicly known fact that the next most senior and most experienced officer in line to assume the office of the IG of Police is Moses Jitoboh, a Niger Deltan from Bayelsa State. Recently, Mr. Jitoboh was transferred to the Research and Development department of the force, which we believe is a prelude to effecting this plan,” the group said.
