Nigerians in UK protest Buhari’s ‘private visit’

Nigerians under the platform of the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria on Thursday in the United Kingdom, UK, protested at the Abuja House in London over President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘private visit’, Sahara Reporters reports.

According to the newspaper, the protest was led by Gabriel Agbontaen.

The protesters reportedly demanded that Mr Buhari should return to Nigeria and fix its health sector instead of seeking medical treatment abroad.

They disclosed that the president was also planning to import foreign medical doctors to Nigeria.

They queried why the president continued to patronise foreign services when imported products such as rice had been banned by his government.

The protesters argued that since Mr Buhari’s visit was private, he ought to privately incur the financial cost of his visits.

Similar protests were held during Mr Buhari’s previous private visits to the UK.

While campaigning to become president in 2015, he promised Nigerians he won’t seek medical treatment abroad after becoming president, but he frequented UK for it during his first term.

It has been estimated that Since his assumption in office, he had spent about 200 days in the UK for medical reasons.

He recently banned ministers from unjustifiable international trips.

Though no government official came out of the Abuja House to address the protesters, who were there for over two hours, some persons were seen filming the demonstrators from inside the facility.

The British police were there to ensure that the protest was peaceful.
