Unidentified gunmen have reportedly shot dead a lawyer and his client shortly after a court session in Anambra State.

IIDOMA VOICE gathered that the tragic incident occurred along the boundary between Agulu and Nanka communities in Anaocha Local Government Area on Thursday morning.

Eyewitnesses told Punch that the assailants carried out the attack without resistance. According to reports, the lawyer had attended a court session with his client earlier in the day and was trailed by the attackers after leaving the courtroom.

A source familiar with the matter disclosed, “The lawyer was handling a major case for the client. The attack happened near the popular Amawbia–Agulu–Nanka–Ekwulobia–Uga–Akokwa road.”

“The gunmen first shot the lawyer dead before turning on the client, who tried to flee but was also gunned down. The assailants immediately fled the scene,” the source added.

Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that a full investigation has been launched.

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, led a team of senior officers—including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and top detectives—to the crime scene at Egbebelu village, Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area.

Ikenga explained that preliminary findings suggest the victims were attacked while returning from the court, having been trailed and ambushed by gunmen on a motorcycle.

“One of the victims survived the attack and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital,” Ikenga revealed. “The survivor has been debriefed and has provided vital information that is helping ongoing investigations and manhunt operations.”

He further stated that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered and identified by their families, while a red Toyota Camry believed to belong to one of the victims was also found at the scene.
