Noah McDickson’s moving tribute to Hon Tony Agbo Tosema
It was my birthday on the 2nd day of October, 2016.
So I woke up with smiles and thanks to Almighty God for adding yet another year to my age.
I had received galaxy of messages from family friends, personal friends and other well wishers wishing me a happy birthday.
I waited impatiently for my friend, Hon Tony Agbo who made it a yearly ritual to send me birthday wishes. He would always display his great of honour by jokingly asking me to tell the world my true date of birth. “Noah, how old are you now?”
He would ask me. And my replies were usually “I am 100 years” then we would both laugh heartily before he offers prayers for long life and prosperous years ahead for me and my family.
This year was a different ball game as the call I received from comrade John Odah was rather to break the sad news of the death of my friend, Hon Tony Agbo.
The brightness of the beautiful day gave way to darkness. I stood with my mouth agape for close to 30 minutes before my Engineer friend (Garba) tapped me to bring me to consciousness.
I was dumbfounded. My friend, Tosema dead? was all I could mutter.
Just as Shakespeare rightly said, heavens themselves blaze forth on the news of the death of the great Tosema, Tony Agbo.
He was a perfect gentleman who had touched lives, inspired youths, fed and clothed the widows/widowers and the aged.
The orphans, the poor and the handicapped had all benefited from his kindness and generosity.
In his short sojourn on earth, he did not discriminate in extending hands of help to the needy irrespective of one’s background.
And like the biblical Dorcas, virtually all who came to him for one help or the other received assistance.
Sometimes I wonder why good people quickly depart the world. Well good actors quit the stage when the ovation is loudest.
Who am I to question the authority of the Almighty? Otherwise, I would have asked God to spare him to continue his good work.
Saying that I miss Tony would be a wry understatement. I will miss him forever. A great and illustration son of Edumoga has gone to meet the Lord forever.
I know the Angels are certainly celebrating his arrival in heaven. Perfection they say, is beyond human attainment, but I must say that you are almost perfect.
Your charming and radiating smiles were true pictures of your sincere and brave heart heart. Yet, your quality advice and strategic interventions on critical issues in Ede-ma shall remain evergreen.
Ede-ma will miss you. Edumoga has lost you. I will forever miss you. Rest in peace my brother, friend and confidant. You were indeed a shining Star in our generation.
REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND
