A northern politician frustrating the passage of Peace Corps of Nigeria’s bill – Insider
By Ekre Christian
More revelations have emerged on the real reason the upper chamber of the national assembly has not been able to pass the bill seeking among other things, the establishment of the Nigerian Peace Corps as an agency under the Ministry of Interior.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that the bill had successfully passed through the second reading and the Senate Committee on Interior was subsequently mandated to carry out public hearings and recommend to the Senate appropriately.
However, all hopes were dashed Thursday morning when the Bill was called on Thursday for consideration and passage, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Bayero Nafada (GombeNorth) was unavoidably absent.
Meanwhile, sources within the national assembly hinted our reporter that a politician from the northern part of the country is frustrating the moves to establish the corp.
The source revealed that the politician, who is highly feared and respected in the political terrain believes that once the bill scales through, it would outshine him.
“The absence of the Committee was staged, I can tell you that. But it is a politician from the northern part of the country that is behind all this. He thinks once the bill scales through, the founder; Ambassador Dickson Akoh would outshine him.
“Don’t be surprised if the senate eventually throws out the bill because the senator is strongly against he and has succeeded in poisoning the hearts of others to speak against it when it comes up again,” the source who doesn’t want his name in print hinted IDOMA VOICE.
Another source revealed that the founder and the politician have been at loggerheads since the former reportedly worked against his reelection into the senate during the last general election.
Meanwhile, the founder, Ambassador Akoh is highly loved and respected back home for his contribution to the development of his country home, Otukpo.
Ambassador Dickson Akor is currently erecting a police station in Ugboju area of Otukpo.

The edifice, which is almost at its completion, would boost security in the area when completed.
