Nwakaego Okoye: TikTok user faces 3 years in prison for cyberstalking Eniola Badmus

Nwakaego Okoye, a female TikTok user, has been sentenced to three years in prison for cyberstalking Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus. The ruling was given by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday.

The conviction came after Nwakaego pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of cyberstalking. Despite her remorse, the judge sentenced her to three years imprisonment. However, there was an option to pay a fine of N150,000 instead of serving jail time.

According to the charge, Nwakaego, along with one Chimabia (who is currently at large), conspired to commit the offence between December 2022 and July 2023 in Lagos. The cyberstalking act violated Sections 24(1)(b)(2)(a)(c) and 27 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.

In her confession, Nwakaego revealed that she defamed Eniola Badmus because a friend named Fortune Ibe promised to pay her N200,000. She admitted to making defamatory statements against the actress to fulfill her desperate need to pay her house rent.

Nwakaego expressed remorse and publicly apologized in a video clip for her actions, citing desperation as the reason for her cyberstalking behavior. She regretfully mentioned that her financial situation pushed her into acting in such a manner.
