The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has refuted a circulating story regarding the posting of a corps member to the Amotekun Corps for the mandatory one-year program.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC Oyo State, Ms. Christy Olatoye, it was clarified that Amotekun was not listed as an employer within the NYSC database.

Ms. Olatoye emphasized that the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as “Amotekun,” remains a respected organization.

She reaffirmed that any purported posting letter for such a deployment did not originate from NYSC in Oyo State.

“The NYSC Oyo State has been made aware of a story circulating on social media regarding a corps member being posted to the Amotekun Corps.

“I wish to clarify that it is the policy of the National Youth Service Corps to assign corps members where their skills and services can be effectively utilized.

“While acknowledging the significance of the Amotekun Corps in its area of operation, it should be noted that they are not among the listed employers in our database. We exclusively make postings to employers listed in our database,” Olatoye stated.

She cautioned against misrepresentation by those seeking to tarnish the reputation of the scheme.

“The National Youth Service Corps is a reputable program that has contributed significantly to the nation for over five decades, with commendable achievements to its credit.

“Hence, it is unacceptable for anyone to use the scheme as a subject for frivolous actions,” she concluded.
