Open grazing no longer viable in Benue — Miyetti Allah

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has declared that open grazing is no longer sustainable in Benue State, affirming its readiness to support initiatives aimed at ending the practice and promoting peace in rural communities.
The Benue State Secretary of MACBAN, Ibrahim Galma, made the statement on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ engagement and official launch of the AgroPastoral Integration for Peace and Sustainable Development (AIPASD) Project.
Galma noted that MACBAN has been involved in the project since its pilot phase and remains committed to its success.
“The position of MACBAN is that we are fully in support of this project from the beginning, and we are going to stay with it until the end,” Galma said.
He emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between herders and farmers to ensure the project’s goals are achieved, adding that peaceful coexistence is critical to the development of Benue’s agrarian communities.
The AIPASD project, which aims to foster harmony between farmers and herders, is an initiative of GoGreen Environmental Health Sustainability Initiatives, implemented under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) programme.
