The Osun State Internal Revenue Service has apprehended two individuals for allegedly creating and distributing fake government tax receipts and clearance certificates.

The arrests were announced by the agency’s Chairman, Ademola Adewumi, in a statement released on Sunday in Osogbo.

Adewumi explained that the suspects were detained during a statewide audit and enforcement operation aimed at curbing revenue fraud. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to preventing revenue leakage and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

“The Osun Internal Revenue Service is dedicated to blocking revenue leakages by arresting individuals involved in cloning and issuing counterfeit tax documents,” Adewumi stated. “This ongoing exercise aims to enforce compliance with tax rules and close any gaps that may lead to revenue loss.”

He warned that anyone involved in the illegal issuance of fake tax receipts or clearance certificates will face severe legal consequences. Adewumi urged taxpayers to use authorized payment channels, including banks, tax stations, MDAs, the OIRS online platform, and OIRS POS marshals, to ensure they receive legitimate government receipts for their payments.

The suspects have been handed over to the state police command for further investigation and potential prosecution.
