The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, has praised the federal government for its planned completion of the long-abandoned Otobi Dam project in Otukpo Local Government Area.

Senator Moro noted that water scarcity in Benue South continues to have serious negative effects on both the land and the people, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, for giving the Otobi Dam the attention it deserves.

The dam, which has a storage capacity of 130 million cubic metres, is expected to significantly address the prolonged water shortage in the senatorial district. Once completed, it will also open up opportunities for irrigation farming and electricity generation, further boosting socio-economic activities in the area.

Senator Moro assured the minister of his full support and the cooperation of his constituents, appealing for the prompt completion of the project.

He also highlighted his ongoing efforts to mitigate water scarcity in Zone C, which include:

Drilling boreholes in various communities

Constructing a water treatment plant at Upu in Otukpo LGA

Rehabilitating the PCI Water Works at Okpoga in Okpokwu LGA

Currently constructing a dam in Adoka District, also in Otukpo LGA

The senator described these interventions as part of his commitment to ensuring that residents of Benue South have access to clean water and improved livelihoods.
