A rally organized by the City Boy Movement (CBM) in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Saturday descended into chaos as irate residents stormed the event, making away with numerous empowerment items intended for distribution in support of President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated 2027 re-election campaign.

The event, staged by the City Boy Movement, a grassroots group backing President Tinubu drew a significant crowd in Owerri before tensions erupted.

Eyewitnesses reported that the venue quickly became unruly, with participants fleeing as angry residents forced their way in.

Footage obtained by SaharaReporters depicted the rally site in disarray, showing people running in all directions while others scrambled to grab items brought for empowerment purposes.

Tailoring machines, refrigerators, and other materials intended for beneficiaries were reportedly carried off by the invading residents.

Within minutes, the scene turned chaotic, marked by shouting, pushing, and general confusion as attendees struggled either to escape or to secure the distributed items.

Videos circulating online captured dozens of people leaving the rally ground hastily, many clutching what appeared to be empowerment materials.

The City Boy Movement is among several political groups actively mobilizing support for President Tinubu at the grassroots level ahead of the 2027 election, although the president has yet to formally declare his intention to seek a second term.

At the time of reporting, neither rally organizers nor Imo State security authorities had released an official comment on the disruption, and it remained unclear if anyone sustained injuries during the incident.
