Panic as Fulani herdsmen send message of impending attack to Oyo communities
Tapa and Ayete communities in Ibarapa, Oyo state have raised alarm over an impending attack by Fulani herdsmen.
A letter titled “lnevitable Attack ls Looming” addressed to the commissioner of Police, Oyo state, Ngozi Onadeko, and signed by one Adeagbo Taiwo, revealed that herdsmen have threatened to attack the communities within seven days starting from Saturday, October 30, 2021, Street Journal reports.
The letter alleged that on Friday, October 29, gunmen numbering up to 70 in number each with an AK-47 rifle came from Ogun State.
It claimed that the gunmen set up camp in Konko community after a man identified as Lukumon Kongo attacked a Fulani at the Konko area.
The letter read in part: “These Fulanis in question promised the people that they are coming to attack Ayete and Tapa within seven (7) days, as from yesterday.”
The letter also stated that a voice note had been sent to police commissioner, Oyo State government, Divisional Police Officers of Ayete and lgangan, Department of State Services (DSS), lbarapa North Local Government, the local government chairman and his deputy.
The voice note contained a warning from the Fulanis telling the occupants of the Ibarapa North local government area to leave before the dry season(October) begins.
Taiwo pleaded with the security operatives to take the letter seriously and help the community out of the looming danger.
He said: “Please sir, don’t handle this report with left hands. Kindly safe life and property.”
