Niger Delta will feel impact of its wealth under my government — Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC in the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has pledged to ensure that the Niger Delta benefits more from its wealth.

Obi made the promise in Asaba, Delta State, during the inauguration of the NDC campaign headquarters in the state.

Obi said the Niger Delta had contributed greatly to Nigeria’s economy through its oil resources. However, he noted that the region had not received adequate development in return.

He said an NDC government would change the situation. Obi also promised greater transparency in the management of public funds.

According to him, people in the region would see more benefits from the resources extracted from their communities.

The former Anambra State governor also expressed concern over the condition of the East-West Road and other federal roads in the Niger Delta.

He said poor infrastructure remained a major problem in a region that contributes significantly to Nigeria’s revenue.

Obi promised better management of national resources. He also pledged to make government spending more transparent.

Obi also promised to prioritise healthcare reform. He said his administration would improve the health system and make it more effective.

He added that political office holders should seek medical treatment in Nigeria whenever possible. According to him, officials should only travel abroad when they receive a referral for specialised treatment.
