Stop sending money home, push for good leaders — Peter Obi tells Nigerians in UK

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC, has urged Nigerians living in the United Kingdom to stop sending money to relatives and others who seek financial assistance from them, arguing that they should instead push for better leadership in Nigeria.

Obi made the appeal during a town hall meeting with supporters in the UK on Sunday. He encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to persuade their relatives and friends at home to vote for credible leaders rather than rely on financial support to cope with the country’s challenges.

The former Anambra State governor said Nigeria would make progress if citizens focused on electing responsible leaders who could manage public resources effectively.

Obi acknowledged that he was not perfect but pointed to his record in Anambra State as evidence of his commitment to responsible governance.

He challenged other former governors to show that they had saved a comparable proportion of public funds during their time in office.

According to him, his record of savings set him apart from other state governors, although he did not identify them individually.

The NDC candidate also argued that meaningful change would only come when Nigerians rejected corrupt leaders and demanded better governance through their votes.
