Peter Obi visits Plateau, pledges financial support for attack victims

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, on Saturday, visited internally displaced persons in Bokkos and Barkin-ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State, where armed men carried out attacks on Christmas Eve.

Accompanied by party officials from the state, Obi pledged the sum of 5 million naira to each of the local government areas, Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi, where displaced persons are currently seeking refuge.

Expressing dismay and condemning the attacks that resulted in loss of lives and property, Obi emphasized the government’s responsibility to protect lives and property.

He expressed concern about the growing number of Nigerians seeking refuge as displaced persons in their own country, deeming it unacceptable and urging the government to address the situation.

Gunmen had attacked over 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas on Christmas Eve, resulting in the tragic death of more than 190 people. The assailants set several houses ablaze, looted farm produce, and destroyed properties. The perpetrators, who remain unidentified, left a trail of devastation with no group claiming responsibility for the attack.
