Police patrol vehicle crashes into house following thug attack in Niger
A Nigeria Police patrol vehicle crashed into a residential building in the Angwan-Kaje area of Maitumbi, Niger State, on Monday evening following an attack by armed thugs.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. when the patrol vehicle, part of the “Operation Flush” unit, was ambushed by miscreants armed with stones and other dangerous weapons.
Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, explained that the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to escape the attack, leading to a collision with a nearby house that sustained significant damage.
Several police officers suffered minor injuries during the incident. Reinforcements were deployed immediately to restore order, and the injured officers were taken to the hospital for treatment. The damaged patrol vehicle was later towed to the Maitumbi Police Division for further investigation.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maitumbi is overseeing the investigation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the culprits responsible for the attack on the police team while on duty,” Abiodun stated.
He further disclosed details of the event: “On 18/11/2024, at about 9:30 p.m., while responding to a distress call in the Angwan-Kaje area of Maitumbi, an Operation Flush patrol vehicle was attacked by miscreants using stones and other dangerous weapons. Unfortunately, in the driver’s attempt to maneuver out of the situation, he lost control and crashed into a residential building, causing significant damages. Some team members sustained minor injuries.”
Investigation into the incident continues, with efforts intensified to bring the attackers to justice.
