Late Lieutenant Usman Shehu Alkali was born on March 25, 1978, in Gombe, hailing from Gombe Local Government Area of Gombe State. His educational journey began at Talo Waziri Primary School and Government Teachers’ College, where he obtained his Primary School Leaving Certificate and Secondary School Certificate in 1990 and 1996, respectively. His dedication to a life of service led him to the Nigerian Army, where he was granted an Executive Commission as a member of Executive Course 1/2020 on May 9, 2020, holding the rank of Lieutenant. With a National Diploma in Public Administration from Kogi State Polytechnic, which he earned in 2014, Late Lieutenant Alkali embarked on a journey of commitment and honor within the Nigerian Army Infantry.

Throughout his career, Late Lieutenant Usman Shehu Alkali exemplified qualities of excellence and dedication. His attendance at the Young Officers’ Course (Infantry) was marked by his hardworking nature and active contributions to classroom discussions and practical exercises. While quiet in demeanor, he possessed a solid command of English and expressed himself articulately. Notable among his achievements was his successful completion of the mandatory 10km Walking/Jogging and Tactical Walk-back during Exercise WAZOBIA HUNTER, demonstrating his physical prowess.

As a Platoon Commander at 146 Battalion, his commitment to duty was evident through his dedicated execution of tasks and his readiness to take on additional responsibilities. His military bearing was impeccable, reflecting his well-groomed professionalism. Transitioning to 45 Battalion, he continued to leave his mark as a disciplined, hardworking, and courageous officer. His involvement in various operations across Rafi, Mariga, and Munya Local Government Areas showcased his leadership in combat scenarios. As an Ambush Commander in Exercise BAUTAN KASA, he exhibited exceptional responsibility.

Late Lieutenant Usman Shehu Alkali’s brilliance, resourcefulness, and integrity were recognized by all who knew him. His unwavering dedication and commitment to his duties marked him as a true patriot and a gentleman officer. On August 25, 2023, he returned to the earth from whence he came, leaving a void in his family, the Nigerian Army, and the nation as a whole.
