As the year 2020 draws its curtain this Thursday, IDOMA VOICE takes a look at some prominent IDOMA natives who painfully went the way of all mortals.
JERRY AGADA
The death of former Minister of Education and chairman, Benue State Civil Service Board, Prof. Jerry Agada came to many as a rude shock.
The Orokam-born writer passed away on December 21 in Makurdi after a brief illness.
ONOJA PRESS
Another death that shook the Idoma community in the year 2020 was the demise that of Dennis Onoja, otherwise known as Onoja Press.
The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain slumped and died on March 19, after complaining of acute chest pain in Makurdi in March.
INNOCENT AKAKTU
In January 2020, Idoma lost one of its illustrious sons and former Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Innocent Akatu.
Akatu died after battling unknown ailment.
GROUP CAPTAIN SUNDAY AUDU
Group Captain Sunday Audu (rtd) also passed away in the year 2020.
The retired military personnel died in April to an unknown ailment.
He’s from Ugboju. Until his death, Audu was a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party.
ROBERT DONNY
In August, former Local Government Chairman of Ogbadibo, Donny Robert died.
Donny died in a hospital in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, after a protracted batted with stroke.
EMMANUEL IKWULONO
The Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ikwulono died in November.
Ikwulono, a native of Agatu, died barely three months after his appointment from complications of surgery.
AMEDU OCHOLI
In October, Ahmedu Ocholi, father of dancehall king, Augustine Ahmedu, otherwise known as Blackface, bowed to his ancestors.
Ocholi, a retired soldier hailed from Agatu, Benue State.
TESSY OKWORI
Benue-born blogger and digital marketer, Tessy Okwori, died in May.
Tessy is the younger sister of now retired singer, Imelda J passed after a brief ailment. She hailed from Ojigo in Okpokwu LGA.
JULIANA EKELE
Juliana Ekele, famously known as Mama G died in April.
She was former Benue State House of Assembly aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in 2019 general election.
INNOCENT AMEDU
Respected cleric, Rev. Innocent Amedu went to meet with his Lord in March.
INSPECTOR ZAYNAB ABBAH
Inspector Zaynab Abbah, a policewoman, who serving in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was killed by robbers in November.
Abbah, a native of Ogbadibo, was shot dead by men of the underworld while returning from work.
DOMINIC OCHEIM OMAKONDO
Renowned philanthropist and business mogul, Chief Dominic Ocheim Omakondo, also died this year.
Chief Omakondo, Known as Adaki K’Idoma one of Anambra and the Omelora of Enugwu-Ukwu na Umu Nri Clan, died at the age of 86 and was laid to rest on Thursday, October 1, in his country home, Adoka area of Benue State.
