A fire broke out early this morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in the Ogba area of the state.

The incident occurred around 2:20 am, affecting one of the two-bedroom apartments in Flat 5 of Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building containing 16 two-bedroom flats.

Preliminary investigations by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) indicated that the fire started due to an electrical surge in the children’s room.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, reported that the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, causing the loss of properties worth millions of naira.

Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu praised the quick and coordinated response of the Agency’s Lagos Response Team (LRT), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, which ensured the fire was swiftly contained and extinguished.

“Thankfully, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident. We also took the opportunity to educate the victims and other residents on the proper use of electrical appliances,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated.

As of 5 am, personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and the Nigerian Police were still working to fully control the situation.
