Re: Evil In The Church; My Experience At Dunamis, Abuja

Our attention has been drawn to a malicious story with the headline: Evil In The Church; My Experience At Dunamis, Abuja published on opera.com on January 26, 2020.

The unknown author in the story claimed he attended the service of January 26, 2020 in Dunamis and the tyres of his vehicle were “maliciously deflated” by someone he alleged was an usher who also threatened to beat him up for “challenging the reasonableness of his instructions.”

To set the record straight, such event was not reported by any of our ushers, anyone or even the ‘victim’ to our knowledge, during or after the Sunday service, at the Glory Dome or any of our branches on January 26, 2020.

However, our findings revealed that the same story was first published on January 26, 2015, on Nairaland Forum and authored by a certain Shedyman, who was not even specific on which of the branches of Dunamis the said incident took place. See link. https://www.nairaland.com/2112494/evil-church-experience-dunamis-abuja

Some persons from the media department of the ministry had then made several efforts to get to the author (Shedyman) on where and how the said incident happened but he was not forthcoming with facts to back up his claim. The Ministry concluded later that the story was a handiwork of detractors and 5th columnists.

We are shocked to see that same story is reappearing on Opera.com without any modification, after five years, and the author claimed the incident happened on January 26, 2020.

It is a clear indication that the writer was only out to dent the image of the ministry because ushers have nothing to do with the directing of traffic during service. Story is a total lie.

This is a clear case of professional misconduct on the side of the editorial team of operanews for not making proper investigation or getting reaction from the ministry before going ahead to publish such malicious report on their news platform. This is against the ethics of journalism.

We, therefore, call on the news site to urgently pull down the story and tender unreserved apology for deliberately attempting to malign the image of the ministry, within 24 hours, and henceforth adhere to ethical values and professionalism.
