Rejection of Och’Idoma: Ochetoha k’Idoma and misplaced priorities

Published

on

I think the Ochetoha k’Idoma as a sociocultural group is confused, especially about the process that led to the selection of the new Och’Idoma. Otherwise, they would have known that the governor is not to blame for the process that led to the selection of the new Och’Idoma.

The Idoma people had people in the House of Assembly when the Benue State Chieftaincy Law was Amended in 2016. What did the Assembly members at that time did to protect the interest of the Idoma people in the amended law, especially as regards the selection of a new King in Idoma Land, based on the tradition of the Idoma people?

Where were the Ochetoha k’Idoma at that time? What was their efforts to ensure that the right law was made to protect the age-long process of chosing a King or Chief in Idoma Land?

I think the right thing for every Idoma man and the Ochetoha k’Idoma to do now is to support the newly selected Och’Idoma, and build synergies to ensure the rites for the coronation of a new Och’Idoma is performed, now that we have a selected Och’Idoma based on the laid down Law.

However, as a Treasurer of the Youth Wing, I equally know that the youth wing is even more confused because their priorities are not well defined. The youth wing lack focus and no clear cut ideologies. Rather, it is been run like a private Enterprise out to only make profit for selected few individuals, and not to protect and promote the interest of the Idoma people.

This is clearly demonstrated in the group quietness over certain issues happening in Idoma nation. The most recent is about an Igbo lady emerging as the Face of Idoma. Ideally, a viable sociocultural group like Ochetoha k’Idoma ought to have said something about that and not to keep quiet entirely.

If the Ochetoha k’Idoma as a sociocultural group will keep quiet on issues bothering on the cooperate existence of the Idoma nation, what is the essence of the sociocultural group?

Shalom!
