Renewed Shege: Stop attacking Tinubu over fuel price hike – Onanuga

Renowned Nigerian journalist and co-founder of TheNews Magazine, Bayo Onanuga, has appealed to the Nigerian people to exercise patience amidst the recent increase in fuel prices from 537 to 617 Naira. Taking to Twitter, Onanuga cautioned against making intemperate attacks on the new government of President Bola Tinubu in response to the fuel price hike.

In his tweet, Onanuga emphasized the need for patience and understanding, as the entire nation is collectively facing the impact of the fuel price increase. He urged the public to await the palliatives promised by the Tinubu administration, expressing hope that these measures would alleviate the burden caused by the higher fuel prices. Additionally, Onanuga highlighted the potential benefits that would stem from subsidy savings, with more funds being channeled into states for various developmental initiatives.

Addressing concerns about returning to a subsidy-based system, the journalist stressed the importance of moving away from the previously “hyper fraudulent subsidy regime,” which heavily impeded investments in critical sectors such as roads, education, and healthcare. He urged citizens to remain patient during this challenging period, as progress often requires enduring temporary hardships.

Onanuga expressed confidence in the Tinubu administration, stating his belief that the country will flourish under its leadership. He concluded his message with an appeal for unity and support as the nation navigates through the current economic situation.

He tweeted, “In this season of high fuel price, I want to plead with our people to exercise some patience. We are all jointly experiencing the pain. All those intemperate attacks against the new government of President Bola Tinubu should stop. Let’s await the palliatives as his government has promised. Let’s await the palliatives that will flow from each state as more money is channeled to them from the subsidy savings.

We cannot go back to the hyper fraudulent subsidy regime where we were spending more money on petrol than on roads, education and health. My people, patience, patience please. I beg you all.
