Cristiano Ronaldo has praised his “incredible” former Real Madrid teammate Marcelo following his retirement from football.

The 36-year-old announced his retirement this week, prompting an outpouring of tributes on social media. Ronaldo was among those to honour the Brazilian on Thursday.

He wrote on Instagram: “My brother, what an incredible career! We’ve lived a lot together, years of achievements, victories and unforgettable moments. More than a teammate, a companion for life. Thank you for everything, my friend. I wish you all the best in this new stage of life.”

Marcelo is set to be remembered as one of the finest left-backs of recent years, having secured 25 major trophies during his 15 years at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo’s heartfelt message, after spending nearly a decade alongside Marcelo, highlights the immense respect he holds for the Brazilian.

As for Marcelo’s next steps, the future is uncertain, while Ronaldo continues to play for Al-Nassr, even after reaching the age of 40.
