Super Eagles won’t give up on 2026 World Cup dream – Ndidi
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has assured Nigerians that the team remains determined to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite their current standing in the qualifiers.
Nigeria will face Lesotho on Friday before returning home to Uyo for a crucial encounter against Benin Republic on Tuesday.
The Eric Chelle-led side currently sits third in their qualifying group with only two wins from eight matches, but Ndidi believes the team can still turn things around.
“We know the situation we’re in and how important these two games are. Our focus is on Lesotho first, then we’ll think about Benin,” Ndidi said confidently. “We have to take it one game at a time and give everything to get the results we need.”
Team captain William Troost-Ekong echoed Ndidi’s optimism, stressing that the squad is united and motivated.
“We’re optimistic and ready to fight till the end. The spirit in camp is high, and everyone is focused,” he said. “Friday’s game is our main focus now. We know what’s at stake, and we’ll give our all.”
Meanwhile, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Bukola Olopade, also expressed his belief in the Super Eagles’ ability to qualify.
“Anyone who knows the Super Eagles understands that we never give up,” Olopade said. “Yes, the group is tight, but everything is still to play for. I have full confidence that this team will make it to the World Cup. Nigeria belongs on that global stage.”
The match against Lesotho will kick off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
