Super Falcons arrive Nigeria after World Cup elimination

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have made their triumphant return to their homeland following an intense journey at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Randy Waldrum’s determined squad fought with every ounce of strength but unfortunately were knocked out of the tournament after a heart-pounding 4-2 penalty shootout against the Three Lionesses of England this past Monday.

The gripping clash concluded in a nail-biting 0-0 deadlock even after regular time and extra minutes had been played.

Late on Wednesday night, a selection of team stalwarts including Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Osinachi, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Gift Monday, and Rofiat Imuran made their way to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, marking an emotional homecoming.

At the airport, a warm reception awaited them, with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board member Fatai Majekodunmi, Chairman of the Lagos Football Association Fouad Oki, and other esteemed dignitaries present to welcome the heroes.

It was reported that Randy Waldrum departed Australia few hours after the team’s unfortunate exit from the World Cup.

Reports have indicated that Waldrum left accompanied by the diaspora players, demonstrating his unwavering support for the entire squad.

Among those who journeyed to the United States of America alongside the 66-year-old coach were Michelle Alozie, Jennifer Echegini, Esther Okoronkwo, Ifeoma Onumonu, Deborah Abiodun, and Toni Payne.
