Suswam moves to dump PDP over escalating party crisis

Former Benue State Governor and ex-Senator Gabriel Suswam has hinted at parting ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the deepening internal strife within the party as a major factor influencing his decision.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Suswam voiced his frustration over the PDP’s persistent leadership crisis. He noted that unless urgent steps are taken to address the situation, he may be compelled to align with another political movement.

“There’s a possibility that I will,” Suswam responded when asked whether he was planning to exit the PDP. “There are various options — Labour Party, the Alliance for Democracy, Kwankwaso’s NNPP, and even the APC could be considered.”

His comments come amid renewed discord in the party, sparked by the controversial return of Samuel Anyanwu as National Publicity Secretary, a development that has reportedly intensified internal divisions.

The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has strongly criticized the reinstatement, accusing Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum of overstepping his authority and making unilateral decisions that undermine the party’s institutional framework.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NWC condemned Damagum for allegedly bypassing party structures and issuing directives without broader consultation, deepening the factional cracks within the organization.
