‘They abandoned the party, left us to pick up the pieces’ – Abba Moro blasts PDP governors
Senator Patrick Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader, on Sunday accused most Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors of abandoning the party during its internal crisis, leaving committed members to bear the burden of reconciliation and rebuilding.
Speaking at the PDP national convention in Abuja, Moro expressed disappointment over the lack of support from the party’s governors, stating:
“Those who insisted on not having peace in PDP, on not reconciling in PDP, on not ending the crisis in PDP, the governors, thirteen at that time, how many of them are in PDP today? Only two. All the others have negotiated a way out of the crisis and abandoned the ship of the PDP to those of us who are remaining now.”
Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, emphasized that despite the challenges, loyal members of the PDP have worked tirelessly to maintain the party’s integrity and prepare it for the 2027 elections.
“We are here not as undertakers of the PDP, but builders of the PDP family. The Senate and indeed the National Assembly has played this role all along. We must collaborate with the party leadership, the caretaker committee, and the new leadership to build a stronger, more competitive PDP,” he said.
He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory for facilitating the reconciliation process and helping draw up a new party leadership structure, calling it a critical step toward restoring the PDP’s credibility.
Moro warned that delegates must take decisive action to unify the party:
“By your collective wisdom today, I pray that you will throw up a PDP that all Nigerians will be proud of, that those sitting on the fence will return to the mainstream PDP, and that we will forge a common ground to contest and win the elections in 2027.”
