A ruling is expected today from the Federal High Court in Abuja in a case aimed at stopping Senator Ireti Kingibe from taking part in the affairs of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Justice Peter Odo Lifu is set to determine the matter after all necessary hearing notices were served on the relevant parties, including the applicants who initiated the ex-parte motion.

The dispute stems from Kingibe’s reported suspension by the ADC Wuse Ward Executive in Abuja on March 10.

The suspension, which was allegedly endorsed by a two-thirds majority of ward leaders, was based on claims of anti-party conduct and violation of the party’s constitution.

The case, filed as FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was brought by Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel on behalf of themselves and other ward members.

Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate, is the only defendant listed in the suit.

Through their counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kolawole Olowookere, the plaintiffs requested an interim injunction preventing the senator from identifying as an ADC member pending the hearing of a substantive motion.

They also urged the court to stop her from attending party meetings, carrying out party-related duties, or representing the ADC in any capacity.

Additionally, the applicants asked the court to restrain her from interfering in ward administration, including access to records and other internal activities.

According to the plaintiffs, the suspension followed laid-down procedures in the party’s constitution and was duly ratified by the ward leadership.

They further alleged that despite being notified, Kingibe continued to organize parallel meetings, issue statements in the party’s name, and allegedly used security personnel to intimidate ward officials.

Justice Lifu had earlier adjourned the matter to April 1 for a ruling on whether the interim reliefs sought by the plaintiffs should be granted.
