Four people, including three police officers and a female suspect, tragically died in a road accident in Ore, the administrative headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State.
IDOMA VOICE gathered that the crash occurred on Thursday when a speeding trailer driver lost control, crossed the road median, and collided with a police van carrying the officers and the suspect.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the police officers, part of the Monitoring Unit of the Ondo State Police Command, were traveling from Akure to Ore to make an arrest.
One officer survived the crash but sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment, Channels Television reported.
Samuel Ibitoye, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, confirmed the incident, citing the trailer driver’s excessive speed as the cause of the accident.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary of the State Hospital in Ore.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, described the accident as a tragic loss and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers. She also disclosed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
