President Bola Tinubu has signed into law a bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, announced the development on his X handle @BwalaDaniel, stating that the move aims to correct past injustices and prevent future marginalization.
“I am pleased to inform Nigerians that President @officialABAT has assented to the bill establishing a Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State,” Bwala wrote.
He emphasized that Tinubu’s administration is committed to righting historical wrongs and ensuring inclusive development. He also noted that the President recently approved another federal university in the Southern Kaduna district of Kaduna State.
“To Tinubu, there are no minority ethnicities in Nigeria. He believes in the national anthem’s opening line—‘though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand,’” Bwala added.
Following the signing ceremony, Tinubu described the institution as a major step toward environmental justice, education, and sustainable development.
“I have signed into law the bill establishing the Federal University of Environmental Technology. Ogoni has long been at the forefront of development and agitation, enduring severe environmental degradation,” he said.
