Transfer: I want to sign Osimhen in January – Pochettino

Chelsea head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, is considering Napoli and Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen as a potential recruit for the upcoming January transfer window.

The Blues are currently facing a striking crisis, having scored only 11 goals in the Premier League across eight games this season, highlighting their need for additional firepower in attack.

ESPN reports suggest that Pochettino is impressed by the 24-year-old goal-scorer Osimhen, who has already netted six goals in Serie A for the 2023-24 season.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney is also under consideration as an option for Chelsea. However, Toney, an England international, is serving a suspension and cannot play for Brentford until January due to a ban received in May.

Securing either Toney or Osimhen would require a substantial financial investment, given their prominence and the duration of their existing contracts, which run until 2025.

Osimhen has established himself as one of Europe’s top strikers. Despite a recent disagreement with Napoli over a critical social media post, he remains highly sought after and is likely to command a transfer fee in the range of £100 million.

Reports indicate that Osimhen has turned down contract extension offers from Napoli, sparking renewed hope at Chelsea that they could potentially acquire him in the upcoming January transfer window.

Chelsea currently find themselves in the 11th position in the Premier League, trailing the league leaders, Tottenham, by a significant nine-point margin.
