Troops of the 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted an attempted attack by suspected terrorists in Zamfara State, recovering weapons, motorcycles and other items during the operation.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspects were advancing toward Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area.

Acting on the intelligence, the troops strategically positioned themselves along the suspected route and laid an ambush for the attackers.

According to a security source, the troops opened heavy fire immediately after sighting the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding bush.

Items recovered at the scene included one PKT assault weapon, ammunition, two motorcycles, chains believed to have been intended for abducted victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms.

Security sources noted that the discovery of the military uniforms suggests the suspects may have planned to disguise themselves during the operation.

They described the mission as a major success, saying it disrupted the terrorists’ planned attack and highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-driven military operations.

The sources added that troops have continued exploitation operations across the area to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further threats to residents.

The military also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West region.
