Troops rescue 74 NYSC members from abduction attempt in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), North East Operation Hadin Kai, have rescued 74 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from a possible abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.
According to security sources cited by Zagazola Makama, the corps members—36 males and 38 females—were rescued around 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday after their vehicles broke down near a location notorious for terrorist ambushes.
The report said a military patrol team was quickly dispatched to the area after CCTV surveillance monitored by troops detected unusual movement involving three buses along the route.
“On arrival, troops discovered 74 NYSC members stranded after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The troops immediately rescued them to prevent a likely abduction attempt by Boko Haram or ISWAP elements operating in the area,” a source disclosed.
Further findings revealed that the corps members had earlier been escorted from Maiduguri to Damaturu by soldiers of the 7 Division Garrison. However, after arriving in Damaturu, they reportedly continued their journey to Hawul Local Government Area without notifying Sector 2 Headquarters or arranging for an armed escort.
The rescued corps members have since been taken to the Buratai military base, where they are being accommodated pending further security arrangements for their safe onward movement.
