Two killed as kidnappers strike travelers in Enugu

suspected kidnappers launched a brazen attack on travelers along the Ugwogo-Neke Road in Enugu State, resulting in the loss of two lives. The incident unfolded at a critical juncture between Enugu East and Isi-Uzo local government areas, casting a dark shadow over the region.

The Ugwogo area of Enugu has been marred by a wave of kidnapping activities, casting a pall of fear over road travel within this zone.

According to an eyewitness account, the harrowing incident transpired on a fateful Friday evening, around 7:30 pm. The assailants, believed to be kidnappers, unleashed chaos by ambushing unsuspecting passersby. Their assault included indiscriminate gunfire aimed at oncoming vehicles, leading to the tragic deaths of two individuals in one vehicle.

Furthermore, the kidnappers targeted another vehicle, forcibly abducting its occupants before making their escape.

One victim, Chief Cyril Mbah from Neke Odenigbo-Nike, tragically lost his life as he attempted to shield his daughter from the attackers. While the daughter escaped unscathed, the relentless gunfire claimed Chief Mbah’s life.

The audacity of the attack and the kidnappers’ ability to strike with impunity have raised concerns about the safety of road travel in the area. Despite this alarming incident, the whereabouts of those abducted remain unknown, shrouding the community in uncertainty.

The Enugu State Police Department is yet to officially confirm the details of the attack, leaving local residents anxious and seeking answers.
