Late football legend, Christian Chukwu to be buried August 22
The family of late Nigerian football legend, Christian Chukwu, has announced that his burial will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025.
In a statement released on Monday in Enugu, the family said preparations are in full swing to ensure a befitting national farewell for the iconic sportsman.
In addition to the main funeral rites in Enugu, where Chukwu hailed from, a special commemorative event will also be held in Lagos, a city where he spent a significant part of his illustrious football career. The Lagos event will allow fans, colleagues, and admirers who may not be able to attend the Enugu ceremony to pay tribute to his enduring legacy.
Chukwu, who captained the Nigerian national team and later served as a coach, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the age of 74.
