During this horrifying episode, three women were forced to strip naked, and a person was killed on the spot. The mob also gang-raped some men in broad daylight, including the brother of one of the women who attempted to protect his sister. The incident was captured on a video that was later shared by the perpetrators, causing further humiliation to the victims.

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum strongly condemned the heinous crime and the dissemination of the video. The Manipur police initiated efforts to apprehend the culprits after the video went viral, causing widespread shock and outrage nationwide. However, as of the latest update, no culprits have been apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing.

The government ordered social media platforms, including Twitter, not to share the viral video to protect the victims’ identities, as it is a punishable offense under Indian law to publicize the identity of sexual crime victims. The Manipur CM announced the first arrest in the case on July 20, following the video’s circulation.

The incident has sparked protests and demands for swift action and justice for the victims. Many people believe such atrocities should not happen in modern India. The pressure is on the authorities to act promptly and bring the perpetrators to justice to restore confidence, particularly among the minority Kuki community in Manipur.
